Petersburg Bureau of Police Lieutenant dies after battle with cancer

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The Petersburg Bureau of Police has announced the death of its Lieutenant Rashaun Boland after a long battle with cancer.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday, Nov. 6, Chief of Police Travis Christian announced that Petersburg Bureau of Police's Lieutenant Rashaun Boland died on Tuesday, Nov. 5 after an ongoing battle with cancer.
"Lieutenant Boland dedicated his life to upholding the values of courage, integrity, and compassion," Christian said in his statement. "Over his 14 years of service, he exemplified what it means to be a true public servant."
Christian said Boland's commitment went beyond his duty as he took the time to mentor new officers, build trust within neighborhoods and show "unwavering" support for the people he served.
The bureau said details regarding Boland's funeral service will be shared once the information has been made available to the agency.
