PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man was sentenced November 1 after being convicted of shooting a man in the leg during an attempted robbery, according to the office of Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.
Jashua Adames Torres, 24, will serve 13 years in the ACI followed by 22 years of probation after a hearing in Providence County Superior Court.
Torres was found guilty of one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, one count of carrying a pistol without a license and one count of firing in a compact area.
The incident occurred on July 23, 2022, when Providence police responded to the Hartford Avenue call at approximately 4:36 a.m.
Arriving officers found a 32-year-old male victim bleeding heavily from his leg, and a tourniquet was applied before he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
The victim informed police that he was the target of an attempted robbery by parties unknown.
A blood trail was observed by police leading to Bodell Avenue where other officers had located four male subjects, including Torres.
The subjects told officers that an argument had taken place but refused to cooperate further.
A video was provided by the Providence Public Housing Authority later in the day that showed Torres and the victim arguing, after which Torres produced a gun and fired.
Torres was arrested the next day.
