Hosted by the ALS Network, this fundraising event brings an outpouring of support for those affected ALS in Hawaii. President and CEO of the ALS Network Sheri Strahl joined Wake Up 2Day and Take2 to tell us more.

Here's what Strahl had to say:
For decades, people with ALS and their families living in the state of Hawaii would have to travel to the mainland to have access to care and resources. But, in 2010, that changed thanks to a dedicated volunteer, Nohea Nakaahiki. For three years, led by then-president & CEO, Fred Fisher, staff and volunteers engaged in advocacy efforts at the federal, state, and local levels, and worked to establish Hawaii as a region within our service area.
In September 2013, thanks to the efforts of many dedicated supporters and caring volunteers, the inaugural Hawaii Walk was launched, as was a special educational symposium featuring ALS experts discussing important aspects of clinical care and promising developments in research. Soon after, on October 11, 2013, they welcomed the Aloha State into the ALS Network service area and, in February 2014, began providing direct assistance in Hawaii to people with ALS and their families.
Since its inception in 2013, the Hawaii Walk & Roll has been a yearly opportunity for the ALS community to connect and fuel the search for effective treatments and cures for ALS. Members of the community will gather for a family-friendly morning of celebration, exercise, education, awareness, inspiration, music, and fun. All funds raised support the mission priorities of the ALS Network in care services, public policy, and research specifically for those living in Hawaii.
