(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said a dog that was found soaking wet and shivering alone by a dumpster was found and eventually adopted by a member of HSPPR's staff.
According to HSPPR, Joey was found near a dumpster at a job site, soaking wet and shivering. HSPPR said despite how he was found, Joey showed nothing but warmth, love, and courage when he came into the shelter.
Joey also captured the hearts of HSPPR staff, with staff notes filled with praise for his sweetness, friendly nature, and joy for life.

"Each tail wag, every soft nuzzle, showed us Joey’s incredible resilience and willingness to trust and love, even after all he had been through," wrote HSPPR.
One staff member at HSPPR was so taken by Joey's gentle heart that he placed a choice hold on him and took him home after being cleared by HSPPR's medical team.
"At HSPPR, we believe even the most heartbreaking stories can lead to a brighter future," wrote HSPPR. "Joey’s story may have started in sadness, but it became a journey of unwavering hope, incredible kindness, and a second chance at happiness."
