James Restaurant is located in the spot that first opened as Griffon's Drugs back in 1958. Joe Shumate's father was behind that initial business, and now his son is the force behind James Restaurant. "It was a drug store with a soda fountain in it," Shumate said. "It has the original soda fountain still up there." That appreciation for the classics is also found in James Restaurant's daily specials. Customers can get chicken fried steaks, good hamburgers and food Louisiana grandmothers make. "We do good, wholesome, fresh-made stuff," Shumate said.
