BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash after a man was struck by a vehicle Tuesday night. Officials with the California Highway Patrol say officers were dispatched to Olive Drive, near Airport Drive around 7:16 p.m. for the report of a vehicle and pedestrian crash. Investigation showed a 2005 Toyota Tacoma was traveling on eastbound Olive Drive when a 59-year-old man was walking southbound across the lanes outside of a marked crosswalk and in the path of the truck. The driver was unable to see the pedestrian due to darkness and no streetlights, according to CHP. The driver was unable to avoid the crash and struck the pedestrian. The pesdestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officers. The driver stopped near the scene and cooperated with the investigation. CHP says alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
