(R) Derek Schmidt beats Nancy Boyda, wins Kansas 2nd Congressional District seat
Nov 05, 2024
INDEPENDENCE, KS (KSNT) - It was a night to remember, Tuesday night, for now Kansas 2nd District Congressman Derek Schmidt, as people started walking through the doors of his watch party in his home town of Independence, Kansas, waiting in anticipation only to soon find out a couple hours later that he was the victor.
It was the first congressional victory celebration in Montgomery county, Kansas, in 64 years when Walter McVey won in 1960. After spending the last six months on the campaign trail, talking to people in all 27 counties of the district, Schmidt says he will continue to do that for the next two years. Although, this time it won't be because he's campaigning, but rather serving.
"Whatever it is that may trouble you, whether you're from the biggest city, or the smallest county, whether you're a democrat, or a republican, or an independent, whatever it is that concerns you about this country, know this, together we can repair it," Schmidt said. We can fix it. And we will do our part from the second congressional district by standing up and being a consistent conservative voice that reflects the values, and the views and the priorities of this congressional district."
After Schmidt gave his victory speech Tuesday night, he said they'll celebrate in the meantime, but tomorrow (Wednesday) it's time to get to work.
