Assemblyman Al Stirpe won re-election to the New York State Assembly’s 127th District on Tuesday night. Stirpe, a Democrat, fended off challenger Tim Kelly, a Republican. He won with just more than 56% of the district’s vote and held a nearly 9,000-vote lead over Kelly. The Associated Press called the race for Stirpe just after 11 p.m. Stirpe was first elected to the Assembly’s 121st district in 2006 and served as a member of the assembly until he lost a 2010 re-election bid. Stirpe ran in 2012 for the Assembly’s 127th District, winning the seat. He has served as the district’s representative since 2013. Kelly is a relative political newcomer. Kelly previously served as the chair for the Town of Manlius Zoning Board.
