COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — It was an important election day for state lawmakers.  All 46 South Carolina senate seats and 124 House spots were up for grabs last night as well as the state’s seven congressional seats. South Carolina Senate District 26 consists of Columbia and many other Midlands communities. It had been served for decades by Nikki Setlzer, whose retirement saw new faces appear on the ballot. Democrat Russell Ott beat Senator Dick Harpootlian in the Democratic primary back in June, campaigning while serving House District 93. Tuesday night, Ott won over Republican candidate Jason Guerry, 55 to 45 percent. In the nation’s capital, Republican Joe Wilson who will continue to serve South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District. The congressman says he is happy to see other Republican wins across the nation… including in the White House. The 77 year old adds that he is excited for another two-year term in DC representing his district.
