Vince Fong projected to win full term as 20th District representative in the House

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Rep. Vince Fong (R) is projected to win election to a full term in the House of Representatives in California's 20th Congressional district, according to the Associated Press.
The AP made its call at 9:17 p.m.
Fong is the incumbent member of the House of Representatives for the seat once held by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Fong won the seat to complete McCarthy's term in a special election in May. The full two-year term begins in January 2025.
Fong's opponent, fellow Republican Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, bowed out of the race in July.
Fong's initial candidacy for the House of Representatives seat sparked legal battles following McCarthy's announced resignation in December 2023. At the time, Fong sought reelection to the California Assembly but joined the 20th District race after McCarthy announced his resignation.
A court allowed Fong to appear on the ballot for the House and Assembly races. Fong and Weir -- via a write-in campaign -- were the top two finishers in the March primary.
In the Nov. 5 election, Fong also appears on ballots for the 32nd District California Assembly seat against Bakersfield City Councilmember Ken Weir. Fong has repeatedly said he was running for Congress and supports Weir in the Assembly race.
