Buddy Carter reelected in Georgia's 1st Congressional District

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Buddy Carter has been reelected to represent Georgia's 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The district spans the entirety of coastal Georgia and includes Savannah, Richmond Hill and Port Wentworth.
Carter, the incumbent Republican, faced off against Democratic challenger Patti Hewitt.
Carter was first elected in 2014 and is considered a conservative member of the House. He opposes the Affordable Care Act (ACA), voted for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and against the Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Act of 2021. Before being elected, he was the owner of Carter’s Pharmacy, Inc.

He has campaigned on fiscal conservatism, limiting government and reducing health care costs.
Hewitt is an executive board member of the Coastal Georgia Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Bryan County Democratic Committee.
Hewitt has campaigned for universal child care, supporting labor unions and green infrastructure to combat climate change.
