Nov 05, 2024
BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WSAV) - Four incumbent South Carolina State Representatives and a sitting State Senator were all on the ballot.
Representative Shannon Erickson will continue to serve in House District 124. She has been in office since 2007.
District 118 Representative Bill Herbkersman will serve an 11th term. He received 65 percent of the vote.
"The experience and the results, I think, made the difference," said Herbkersman. "I mean, people can see every day when they drive by USB in the town of my college, right on the road, see the river. I think that made the difference. They knew that our hearts are in this and that we are one big community."
In House District 120 Weston Newton claimed victory in the race. He will continue with a sixth term by defeating Democrat Kate Creech.
"Experience, perspective and leadership, I mean, that that those are the three key words that you can sort of sum up this legislative delegation in this part of South Carolina," said Newton. "I was born and raised in the state. We got nothing like this anywhere else in the state of South Carolina. Right now, we've got years of experience and different levels of public service. We've all got the perspective from having served and serving different constituencies and what's important for the Lowcountry and then leadership."
House District 123 Representative Jeff Bradley defeated challenger Lisette Cifaldi with 61% of the vote.
Tom Davis has been in the State Senate since 2009. He faced Democrat Gwyneth Saunders. Davis taking more than 69% of the vote.
Davis says he wants to continue building infrastructure and working toward the possibility of medical marijuana in the Palmetto state. Working with the other Lowcountry members of the House and Senate.
"It's not about Republicans and Democrats. It's about what's best for this part of the county," said Davis. "I mean, it's a southern part of the county. I mean, roads, bridges, quality of life environment. I mean, just all those things that come across partizan lines. And so I really am gratified today that the voters of my district sent me back to Senate. And I want to accomplish two things for them. And I meant what I said earlier. 20 years ago, it was Greenville, Spartanburg. Ten years ago, it was the greater Charleston area. Greenville. Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley counties. The next ten years it will be Beaufort and Jasper County."
