Wittman wins reelection in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Republican U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman has defeated Democrat Leslie C. Mehta in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District race to win another term in Congress, according to The Associated Press.
Wittman, first elected to represent the district in 2007, defeated Democratic challenger Herb Jones and independent candidate David Foster in 2022 to win another term.
Mehta, a civil rights attorney who served as the legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, beat Jones in the Democratic primary in June.
The largest share of voters in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District come from parts of Chesterfield (20%) and Henrico (23%), according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
