Massachusetts, Rhode Island officials react to election results
Nov 05, 2024
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials from Massachusetts and Rhode Island have begun reacting as election results come in.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse thanked Rhode Islanders for a “strong vote of confidence:”
It’s an honor to fight every single day on behalf of Rhode Islanders, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me. I will spend the next six years working hard to make our government and economy work for all Rhode Islanders. I’m in the middle of some big fights – leading the planet to safety in the race against climate change and restoring the integrity of the Supreme Court – and I’m heading back to work buoyed by this strong show of support. As we await more results tonight, I want to once again take a moment to thank all Rhode Islanders who made their voice heard to strengthen democracy.
Rep. Gabe Amo said he is “honored” to continue serving the state:
I am honored that voters in Rhode Island’s First Congressional District have overwhelmingly reelected me to serve as their voice in Washington. During my first year in office, I’m proud of what we have accomplished to positively impact the lives of my constituents, by bringing resources home and ensuring that I share our state’s values in Washington. There is work to do to continue to lower costs, deliver economic opportunity for Rhode Island families, and protect our freedoms. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and continuing to work for all of us.
Rep. Seth Magaziner said that he remains “committed to fight” in Washington:
I am honored by the trust and confidence the voters of Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District have placed in me to serve them for a second term in the United States House of Representatives.
As I return to Washington, I remain committed to fighting for the priorities that matter most to Rhode Islanders; protecting Social Security and Medicare, cutting costs for working people, protecting the Affordable Care Act, enacting common-sense gun safety legislation, and defending women’s right to choose.
Thank you to my family and my dedicated team for their support and hard work in making this possible, and to the people of Rhode Island for inspiring me every day.
Magaziner also released a statement congratulating both Whitehouse and Rep. Gabe Amo for their reelections:
Congratulations to my colleagues Sen. Whitehouse and Rep. Amo on their decisive reelection wins tonight. With them and Sen. Reed, I feel privileged to be a part of a delegation committed to delivering for Rhode Island by fighting for working people, and I look forward to continuing to work with them on behalf of our state in the years ahead.
