Grebien was running for an eighth two-year term, having first been elected in 2010. The Democrat and lifelong Pawtucket resident said he's focused on moving the city forward and improving the quality of life for residents.
Luciano, despite his former Republican ties, ran as an independent. His policy goals included economic growth, education, public safety and community empowerment.
The win comes during a time of great change in Pawtucket. The soccer stadium at Tidewater Landing, which will be home to Rhode Island FC, is expected to open in April. The city is also making progress on the Pawtucket-Central Falls Transit Center and planning to build a new unified high school at the former site of McCoy Stadium, while also trying to keep toymaker Hasbro from leaving.
