Nov 05, 2024
BAY ST. LOUIS, Ms. (WGNO) — In Mississippi, voters were out to cast their votes for all house seats, a senate seat and the presidential election.
Voters at the American Legion Post 139 in Bay St. Louis said that, although they might not be voting for the same candidates, the one thing they can agree on is that your vote counts.
"If you pay taxes every year, you matter, so come out and vote," Justin Nichols, Bay St. Louis voter said.
"We want our communities to be safe and led by really good politicians. The only way to have your voice heard is to go out and vote today," Christie Andras Royster, Bay St. Louis voter said.
What to expect for Election Day 2024
"It is important to vote if you are a citizen of this country," Winnie Lennon, Bay St. Louis voter said.
These Mississippi voters proudly voted and they got the stickers to prove it.
"It is like going to church. It makes you feel better," Nichols said.
Wanting better for their community is why they headed to the polls. Statewide, the big races are senate and house seats.
"I think here in Mississippi we care about education and community. We want our communities to be safe, our kids to be safe, so we vote for the candidates that best fit our community," Andras Royster said.
Court says Mississippi can’t count late ballots but the ruling doesn’t affect Nov. 5
"Locally, the schools, the school system and economy is the key thing," Lennon said.
Key issues are making the voter turnout high, and no matter how the elections turn out, these voters say we must remain united.
"I may not be voting for the same person that's watching this, but we can still be friends. Everyone seems to be focused on one goal today," Robert Northridge, Bay St. Louis voter said.
Polls close at 7 p.m.
