MARTINSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — NASCAR suspended multiple team members from several teams after it was determined that those teams had violated the NASCAR Member Code Of Conduct during the Martinsville race this past Sunday.
The crew chief, spotter and a team executive from the 1 car driven by Ross Chastain, the 3 car of Austin Dillon and the 23 of Bubba Wallace were all suspended for the NASCAR race this weekend at Phoenix. The drivers and teams were also fined $100,000 and docked 50 points.
The penalties stem from the 1 and 3 cars seemingly blocking other racers helping the 24 car of William Byron, a Cheverolet corporate teammate, keep enough points to advance to the Championship 4.
The 23 team was penalized for seemingly giving up positions to help its Toyota teammate Christopher Bell in the 20 car gain more points in hopes of getting in the championship 4.
NASCAR reviewed video, radio transmissions and telemetry from during the race in its decision to issue the penalties.
Each team has said they will appeal the penalties. The appeals process will be expedited this week ahead of the Championship race in Phoenix.
