A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony eluding, misdemeanor second offense DUI and other offenses following an early morning vehicle pursuit, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Geovanio Ramirez-Reyes of Carson City was taken into custody at 2:14 a.m. in the 1300 block of La Loma Drive. He was also booked for failure to obey a traffic control device and speeding.
According to the booking report, on Saturday, Nov. 2 at around 2 a.m. a deputy was driving on Woodside Drive approaching Stanton and observed a white sedan driving westbound on Stanton from Fairview at a high rate of speed.
The deputy turned westbound on Stanton Drive and the suspect vehicle was already at the end of the street, southbound onto Monte Rosa Drive. The vehicle then went westbound onto Gordonia, failing to stop at the marked white stop line, the report states.
During this time the vehicle was still traveling at a high rate of speed causing the officer to drive at an estimated speed of 45 mph to 50 mph to catch up. The vehicle then went northbound onto Siskiyou Drive then eastbound onto Stanton, the report states. The officer caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at Stanton and La Loma.
The vehicle failed to yield to the emergency lights, turning northbound onto Lompa and continued to drive. The officer turned on their siren and advised dispatch of a failure to yield. The officer attempted to catch up the the vehicle, which had plenty of opportunities to safely pull over but did not, the report states.
The vehicle turned eastbound onto Gordonia then southbound onto Stanford Drive. At this time the deputy looked down at the speedometer and was traveling at approximately 50 mph in a 25 mph zone, still trying to keep up with the suspect vehicle, according to the report.
The driver turned onto multiple streets, continuing at a high rate of speed with disregard to public safety and failed to obey multiple traffic control devices, the report states.
The vehicle finally slowed down and pulled over in the 1300 block of La Loma Drive. The driver, identified as Giovani Ramirez-Reyes, put his hands outside the window. The officer conducted a felony traffic stop and started to give commands to the driver, ordering him to turn off the vehicle and exit the vehicle. The man complied and appeared to stumble while exiting the vehicle.
The man was arrested and placed into the rear of a patrol vehicle. He was read his Miranda rights and remained silent when asked if he agreed to speak, the report states.
The man was taken to Carson City Jail. He refused to submit to standardized field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test. He was read a request for voluntary evidence, in which he stated, "yeah, I need a lawyer and refuse everything," the report states.
The deputy contacted the on-call district attorney and judge to obtain a telephonic search warrant for a blood draw. The warrant was granted. He was booked for suspicion of felony eluding, DUI second, speeding 16-20 mph and failure to obey traffic control devices. Bail: $5,000.
