Two Fernley residents identified in fatal Lyon County crash

Nevada Highway Patrol has identified two people from Fernley who died in a crash Oct. 24 on US-50A and Wedge Lane in Lyon County.
John Jackson, 79, and the passenger, Laura Jackson, 78, both from Fernley, died from injuries at the scene of the crash, according to the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at around 2:13 p.m.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Toyota 4Runner was traveling eastbound on US50A in the number one travel lane approaching Wedge Lane.
A 2005 Toyota Tacoma, driven by John Jackson, was stopped at the stop sign on northbound Wedge Lane at the intersection with US50A, according to NHP.
The Toyota Tacoma entered the intersection in an attempt to make a left turn onto westbound US50A. The front of the Toyota 4Runner struck the left side of the Toyota Tacoma, with John Jackson and passenger Laura Jackson. Both were pronounced deceased on-scene, according to NHP.
The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating this crash. Year to date, in 2024, Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West has investigated 28 fatal crashes resulting in 32 fatalities. Fatalities data is preliminary and may change/be updated based on final investigation and coroner reports.
