A 1-year-old child who was hit by a car on a Valley Center street on Monday morning suffered fatal injuries in the collision, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday. The incident was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Morningstar Road, which is on the Rincon reservation. According to the CHP, the child died as he or she was airlifted to a hospital. The CHP did not say if the child who died was a boy or a girl. A CHP statement said the driver who struck the child was a man, and alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in the crash. On Monday, a sheriff’s official said that the driver of the vehicle did not stop after hitting the toddler on the roadway. A vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision was located on state Route 76 near Pauma Valley Drive, about 10 miles away, the official said. No other information about the driver was released, and the CHP statement did not mention the driver leaving the scene of the collision. CHP investigators asked anyone with information or video of the incident to contact the CHP Oceanside office at 760-643-3400.
