Detectives investigate Kingsburg cold case
Nov 04, 2024
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is working to solve who is behind the 2021 murder of 23-year-old Shawn Vigo of Kingsburg.
"Just put yourself in the family's shoes. You know, Shawn's family's gone for more than three years now without him. That's a great enough loss. But to not be able to hold anybody accountable, that's an extra gut punch," Fresno County Sheriff's Public Information Office Tony Botti said.
It was Aug. 16, 2021, when Kingsburg Police responded to a shots fired call near the 1700 block of 18th Avenue in Kingsburg.
They found 23-year-old Shawn Vigo lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Our detectives were called in to take over the case. We've been actively working this for a little over three years now," Botti said.
He said despite their investigation, they still haven't made any arrests.
"Since the murder occurred back in 2021, our detectives have developed some good leads. They follow that information. But unfortunately, it hasn't been enough to make an arrest," he said.
They're now asking for the public's help and hope anyone who knows anything will come forward. Botti said as the years pass, someone may feel more comfortable speaking up now than they did in 2021.
Botti said those who know anything about the murder of Shawn Vigo in August of 2021, what led up to the shooting, or any other information about what happened, no matter how small, to please contact their office directly.
"There's one thing to have, you know, physical evidence, but there's another to have somebody who can actually corroborate it. That's what we're looking to do, is to bring this case full circle, put it together with the evidence and the statements that somebody may have that can put this person there as being the gunman who is responsible for this," Botti said.
