NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) -- For over three hours, the City of Newton has been dealing with some type of issue near 12th and Kansas. The Newton Police Department announced around 2 p.m. that there was no immediate danger to the public and asked people to avoid the area while it investigated. At 5 p.m., the police department advised that residents may hear a loud boom on the north side of town around 5:30 p.m. "Do not be alarmed. There is no threat to the public," police said.
