ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – Jury selection wrapped up Monday night, and opening statements took place Tuesday morning in the state trial for the man accused of shooting and killing Alamogordo Police Officer Anthony Ferguson in July 2023. The Otero County District Attorney’s Office said three witnesses took the stand on Tuesday. De La O was then arrested and charged for the murder of Ferguson. The trial is estimated to last seven days and prosecutors said they plan on calling 32 witnesses in the trial. De La O also faces federal charges of possession of a firearm not registered with the National Firearm Registration and Transfer Record, and possession of a firearm not identified by a serial number.
