Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office asking for help locating hit and run suspect

SANTA FE COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for assistance locating 29-year-old Mario Israel Mendez. Mendez has been identified as a suspect in a fatal hit and run that occurred on October 15, 2024.

The crash resulted in the death of 43-year-old Monique Maes. Mendez is accused of striking Maes and her two children as they were walking on Paseo de Nopal. The children were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. Maes died as a result of her injuries. Mendez is described as 6 foot tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mendez is asked to call the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office non-emergency like at (505) 428-3720 or Crime Stoppers at (505) 955-5050. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Mendez.
