The trade deadline came and went on Tuesday afternoon with the Vikings ultimately deciding to stand pat. It’s not necessarily a surprise when looking at the big picture. As much as the Vikings likely would’ve loved to add another piece to the puzzle, the lack of draft capital at their disposal was always going to make it tough for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to find the right fit. It also might’ve been hard for the Vikings to find a willing partner given that fact that there weren’t many sellers across the NFL this time around. This is a reality that head coach Kevin O’Connell acknowledged earlier this week. Asked about the dialogue he has had with Adofo-Mensah leading up to the trade deadline, O’Connell noted that they are in constant communication, before adding, “There’s a lot of things that never really materialize.” That proved to be the case as the Vikings let the trade deadline pass without making another move. Though the fan base seemed to be pushing for the Vikings to trade the farm to the New York Giants in exchange for star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, that always felt like it existed more as a pipe dream on social media rather than something that could actually happen. The biggest addition for the Vikings ended up coming last week when they acquired left tackle Cam Robinson in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The decision to go get Robinson came in response to star left tackle Christian Darrisaw being ruled out for the remainder of this season. It paid off right away as Robinson made an immediate impact for the Vikings in the 21-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts. It’s also worth noting that the Vikings recently added running back Cam Akers in a trade with the Houston Texans. That was not insignificant, as it appears that Akers has carved out a niche as backup to veteran running back Aaron Jones moving forward. Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Detroit Lions acquired edge rusher Za’Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns, while the Green Bay Packers sent edge rusher Preston Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Chicago Bears flipped running back Khalil Herbert to the Cincinnati Bengals. No doubt the most notable move of the trade deadline was made by the Washington Commanders as they swung for the fences and acquired star cornerback Marshon Lattimore in a blockbuster deal with the New Orleans Saints. Nothing like that ended up being in the cards for the Vikings, so they will push forward with their current roster as is. “We’re very cognizant of our team and what’s been built here,” O’Connell said. “We have a lot of confidence in our team.” Related Articles Minnesota Vikings | Vikings place kicker Will Reichard on IR, sign kicker John Parker Romo Minnesota Vikings | Dane Mizutani: Vikings owe it to themselves to be buyers at the trade deadline Minnesota Vikings | Vikings kicker Will Reichard being evaluated for a quad injury Minnesota Vikings | Five takeaways from Vikings’ 21-13 win over Colts Minnesota Vikings | Vikings shake off rough start to beat Colts 21-13
