Sameday registration clears the way for many Richmond voters this year
Nov 05, 2024
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Same-day voter registration is making it possible for many Richmond residents to cast a ballot this 2024 General Election, general registrar Keith Balmer confirmed.
As originally reported by the Virginia Mercury, by early afternoon on Tuesday, Nov. 5, just about 10% of votes cast at Richmond's Main Street Station were made possible by same-day voter registration.
Same-day registration was rolled out across the Commonwealth in time for the 2022 General Election following an act of the General Assembly, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.

Voters who register on Election Day are given a provisional ballot. Before counting that ballot, the voter's local election board will review their submitted voter registration application to determine whether or not it can be accepted.
