CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A suspect has been arrested following a police chase in Chesterfield on Sunday where shots were fired. At 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, an officer with the Chesterfield County Police Department saw a suspect vehicle associated with several local larcenies. Near the intersection of Stanley Drive and Benika Drive in Chesterfield, the officer activated his emergency equipment to pull the vehicle over, after which police said the suspect vehicle immediately began speeding. Officers then began chasing the vehicle, and while heading east on Iron Bridge Road near Omo Road, police said the passenger in the suspect vehicle leaned out of his window and fired multiple shots at the pursuing officer. Officials said no officers or police vehicles were struck. Police said the suspect's vehicle then crashed near the intersection of Iron Bridge Road and Chesterfield Meadows Drive, and two suspects ran from the vehicle. The driver, identified by police as 26-year-old Mejia Menendez of Richmond, was arrested and charged with the following: Driving under the influence Felony eluding Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon Possession of a firearm by a non-citizen Attempted aggravated murder Principle in the second degree to discharging a firearm in a vehicle Two counts of possession of a schedule I/II controlled substance Two counts of possession of a firearm while in possession of a schedule I/II controlled substance Improper registration Failure to drive on the right side of the road Following additional investigation, police said the passenger was identified as 25-year-old Oscar Armando Barrera of Richmond, who was arrested on Monday, Nov. 4. Barrera was charged with the following: Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon Possession of a firearm by a non-citizen Attempted aggravated murder Discharging a firearm in a vehicle Two counts of possession of a schedule I/II controlled substance Two counts of possession of a firearm while in possession of a schedule I/II controlled substance Grand larceny Officials continue to investigate.
