RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia War Memorial will soon host its 68th annual Veterans Day Ceremony. 8News spoke with its director about what attendees can expect. 8News anchors Delaney Hall and Autumn Childress had the chance to speak with Clay Mountcastle, the director of the Virginia War Memorial, about the upcoming Veterans Day Ceremony happening on Nov. 11 starting at 11 a.m. at the memorial's E. Bruce Heilman Amphitheater. "We always have a number of great speakers and performances for Veterans Day -- it's really a celebration of service and patriotism," Mountcastle said. He said people can expect live music performances from local bands as well as a keynote speech from U.S. Army Commanding General Gary Brito. This is the 68th year that this event has been held. Mountcastle helped shed some light on why an event like this is important to the community. "It's so important that we just take a day to thank those that have decided to serve the country in uniform both past and present," Mountcastle said. "There's a lot of sacrifice involved in service, and the family members as well, but we definitely want to make it a celebration of service." The event is free to attend, as all of the Virginia War Memorial programs are. For more event details, you can visit this link.
