HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Some residents in Hampton Roads reported problems at the polls on Election Day.   Several viewers sent in tips about ballot machines not working at polling locations in Hampton, Newport News and Yorktown.   A resident in Newport News told 10 On Your Side the machine at the precinct off Warwick Moose Lane was not working when they went to vote.    The registrar's office said they sent over a new machine after and confirmed votes will still be counted.     In Yorktown, the registrar's office confirmed there was an issue with their machine at the Yorktown Library, but it was resolved.    Several voters also reported issues at the Phoebus Branch Library in Hampton. The registrar’s office confirmed with WAVY 10 that there was a jam causing the issue.   Voters at the branch were told to put their ballots in the emergency drop or to wait until the issue is resolved. As of 7 a.m., the issue had been resolved.  Resident Cassandra Mitchell said she encountered the issue when she voted at the precinct.   “When I arrived at the poll around 6:10, and it was shortly after that, maybe five people was able to scan their ballots, and then the machine broke," Mitchell said. "This is Election Day. This is a very important election. Why would you only have one box? I don't care if it's considered a small precinct, they should have a backup ready for you.”   David Godwin also voted at the precinct, but remained positive about what happened.  “They had somebody there, a technical worker, technician, somebody who knew what they were doing, and then everybody else was just focused on their role and their job,” Godwin said. “There was a jam in the ballot box, but they had another place where you can put it in and had someone there fixing it. So, I feel good about it. I feel confident that my vote is counted, and everything is safe and secure and all good.”   If you experienced any issues voting on Election Day, you can submit your story here.
