COGIC Holy Convocation makes way in Memphis
Nov 05, 2024
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The 116th Annual COGIC Holy Convocation begins Tuesday at the Renasant Convention Center, bringing big crowds and big money with it.
"It has been estimated that these services where people gather bring in $30 to $40 million in about a seven to eight-day period," said Frank White, Financial Secretary, COGIC.
Hundreds will be able to enjoy seven days of events planned by COGIC and explore everything Memphis has to offer.
“To me, it’s a like spiritual family reunion,” said Ronald Wilson, an attendee.
Wilson says he comes every year from South Hampton, New York.
"The city has agreed to make sure that we can transport all of the individuals from the various hotels not only to Mason Temple but also to the Convention Center downtown," White said.
The only thing that has not been worked out is if the 2026 Convocation will be held here in Memphis.

"We are not quite sure what the future will hold as of yet," White said. "We will have a business section that’s called the General Assembly and at that time the delegates from our domination will gather to discuss."
But, those who attend are hoping to be back.
“I am not mad at this weather, Love the weather, love the food of course and just being here with that southern hospitality – you can’t beat it,” Wilson said.
Starting at 6 a.m., there will be MATA buses at certain hotels across the Bluff City to help those with COGIC get around.
The bishop says, “We got Mata bus to replace the trolly. The Mata on Main Street will be running from 6:45 a.m. until 11 p.m. or so. This is to replace the missing trolley transportation, a gesture from Mata Services to COGIC. Also, CVB has provided buses to transport the Saints from the major hotels downtown from the Convention Center. COGIC will be providing additional charter buses to major hotels outside of downtown like Hilton, Marriott East, The Guest House, Embassy, and others.”
