Voters made their voices heard in both Madison and Estill County on Election Day. Jacob Arnold was among those who voted in favor of Trump at the polling place at Estill County High School. His main concern this election is border security. “His attitude and everything I know has been a little hard for people to deal with,” Arnold said. He’s a little different, but I think that if he gets back in, people are going to see a change, and see a change back the way things used to be.” Estill County’s Tyra Lambert also says she’s voting for Trump, and is most concerned with the candidates’ economic policies. “I know that when we have people that do not have the financial security that I have, it’s going to be hard,” Lambert said. “It’s hard to feed your family, it’s hard to do anything. We’ve got a lot of resources right here in America, and why we are outsourcing those to other countries, I don’t understand.” The Madison County Public Library was one of the voting hubs in Madison County. Richmond local Tamika Sims says she’s voting for Kamala Harris. She says her main focus is on the character of both candidates. “I do like Kamala and the things that she has said about women’s rights, about supporting immigrants and taxing richer people, I think that’s important,” Sims said. Brandi Blackburn says her mom instilled the value of voting at a young age. She also voted for Kamala Harris. “I’m just tired of having an angry candidate and to see her, and I think she can unite the country instead of divide it. And we need to bring everyone back together, where ideas can be different and we can still be friendly,” Blackburn said. Madison County voted 62 percent in favor of Trump in 2020. Estill County voted in favor of Trump with 78 percent of the vote. That matches most of Kentucky, which is expected to vote overwhelmingly in favor of the former President this year. ** WEKU is working hard to be a leading source for public service, and fact-based journalism.
