HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The general election is underway with the presidential race projected to be close. We also have many local races up for grabs in the islands as well as ballot measures. Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You Polls have been a topic of discussion after large polling discrepancies from election results in the 2016, 2020 and 2022 elections. "I don't worry about those. Neither should you. Just go vote," Hart said. Hawaii County Mayor to be decided Tuesday In 2020 results dragged on for days after ballots were counted in razor-thin margin swing states. Hart is hopeful that won't be the case this time but is weary of legal challenges. What donuts and elections have in common "It could be very early. East Coast is gonna come in around 2 o'clock our time is when those polls close. I would look at Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia. If they all go the same way, regardless of which way they go, that way will probably win. The challenge will be, of course, we will have close states. There will be court challenges. Courts are going to have to rule if there's going to be ballot recounts. If there are it could stretch out for a while." How close does the presidential election have to be for a recount? As far as things in Hawaii go, there are a number of races outside of the presidential election that are drawing voters out to cast their ballot. Find more Hawaii, Oahu, Maui and Kauai news here "Well, locally, obviously, on Oahu, the personnel races have been decided," Hart said. "We know our mayor. We know our city council. But there are charter amendments at the state level and the city level. Outer Islands, Big Island is the very competitive mayor's race. Maui, that competition is probably the deciding vote on the Maui City Council. Huge implications for what we're going to do with Maui."
