(COLORADO SPRINGS) — It's finally election day, and those last minute votes are still trickling in for El Paso County.
The County Clerk and Recorder, Steve Schleiker, anticipates we'll start getting early results at around 8:00 p.m. However, it's all dependent on when the lines clear out at the polls.

It's a very busy day for the El Paso County Elections Department, with lots of excitement and nerves in the air. There was a steady flow of people dropping off their ballots and heading inside to vote.
"I noticed a lot of Americans are actually excited to vote. Or maybe, excited is not the right word, but they are eager to vote. It seems like a lot is riding on this election," said Katrina Jenkins, an El Paso County Voter. "Especially when there are a lot of things that the American populace hasn't really seen."Both voters and county officials agree that this election is unlike anything we've seen before."You know, this is a really significant election. It's something that I don't think any of us will ever see again. It's a very unique election where we're looking at a number of different propositions and initiatives," said Schleiker. "I've been here since 1975 and I've never seen so many statewide propositions or citizen initiatives."Schleiker has noticed that many voters this year want to be well-educated, with lots of interest in the Blue Book and TABOR Notice. "[There are] a number of different things, going into this federal election... [and it's] something that we will probably never ever see again in our lifetime," said Schleiker. "Plus, there's a lot of emotion attached to this particular election."He said over 800 election workers were hired in El Paso County. They work hard at pre-processing and counting ballots, in an effort to release preliminary results as early as possible. "Right now we're looking at probably 8 p.m., then another round at 9 p.m. Again, if people are still in line, [and] they made it there prior to 7 p.m., we have to allow them to vote. So, we just may have those results coming out a little bit later," said Schleiker. He added that final results will probably not be available until eight days after the election, due to Colorado law regarding signature issues and overseas military voting.

Many people voting on election day said they're excited to have their voice heard. "I think we're in the age of information, [the] age of social media. I think that has a really big influence on it. Social media definitely has impacted my perspective on politics, and my ability to get a lot more information than I think my peers in past generations have gotten," said Jenkins.
You can drop off your ballot, vote in person, or even register right up until 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 5. You just have to be in line before it turns 7:00 p.m.
Schleiker is urging people to vote as early as possible, because preliminary results cannot be released until the final ballots are in.
