A 54-year-old construction worker was killed when a semi truck slammed into his aerial lift and left the scene late Monday in Hubbard's Cave on the Kennedy Expressway, state police said. Francisco Javier Padilla-Gutierrez was standing on an aerial lift on the inbound lanes near Kinzie Street about 9:30 p.m. when a semi plowed into the lift and didn't stay on the scene, a statement from Illinois State Police said. Padilla-Gutierrez, of Calumet City, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:04 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled and no further information was released.
