Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images Instant reactions to the Lions acquiring Za’Darius Smith at the trade deadline. Just hours before the NFL trade deadline, the Detroit Lions secured some much-needed help with the addition of pass rusher Za’Darius Smith. The Lions receive the veteran and a 2026 seventh-round pick from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick. Detroit was certainly in need of some help after losing Aidan Hutchinson to a gnarly season-ending injury. Here are some instant reactions to the big news: Incredible - Welcome to #Detroit @zadariussmith - #DefendTheDen - Let's go @Lions https://t.co/nGz6FWJR4f— Barry Sanders (@BarrySanders) November 5, 2024 .@Foxworth24 reacts to the Detroit Lions trading for former Pro-Bowl DE Za'Darius Smith "This does make them more significant of a Super Bowl contender." pic.twitter.com/FxkPHrRfWN— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) November 5, 2024 I’ve gone against Za’Darius Smith for a few games. Always made the most sense. Didn't cost an arm and a leg. Cheap this year, options for next year. Nice job, Brad.— Ben Raven (@BenjaminSRaven) November 5, 2024 Among all edge rushers with at least 150 pass rushes on the season, Za'Darius Smith (5 sacks, 28 total pressures) ranks 11th with a Win Rate of 18.1% (Aidan Hutchinson still qualifies with 198 reps, and continues to lead the category at an unattainable 38.4%). #Lions #Browns— Josh Liskiewitz (@PFF_Josh) November 5, 2024 So we got Za'Darius Smith for nothing, basically. This cracked me up following the game — it’s Reporter 101 to not let go of the mic and she held on for dear life. Kerby Joseph had the first Pick-6 of his career today.. and no doubt in his mind who the best team in the NFC is…Let’s just say, he was FIRED UP when he joined me - had to stay disciplined here with the mic, but man I wanted to hand it off! @nflnetwork @NFLGameDay #OnePride pic.twitter.com/YpGumkYQ0j— StaceyDales (@StaceyDales) November 4, 2024 I’ll never pass on an opportunity to share Dan Campbell praise when I come across it.
