NORTH DAKOTA (KXMB) — Some soft-ripened cheeses sold at Aldi and Market Basket have been voluntarily recalled due to a potential listeria risk. According to Savencia Cheese USA, processing equipment at one of its facilities may have been contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause a listeria infection. Testing did not find any contaminated products, the company said, but a voluntary recall of certain cheeses was issued. All recalled cheeses, listed below, have best-by dates of Dec. 24, 2024. No UPCs were provided for two of the cheeses. With the exception of Aldi and Market Basket, no other impacted retailers were listed. According to the FDA, the cheeses "had limited regional distribution" in the U.S. At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse health events after consuming these products. Wawa-branded tumblers recalled over ‘laceration hazard’ The FDA notes Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, as well as miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. Others may become ill with short-term symptoms, like a high fever, headache, nausea, stiffness, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The U.S. has already had multiple recalls this year related to listeria. That includes widespread outbreaks linked to Boar's Head products, and McDonald's Quarter Pounders, as well as other smaller recalls over potential listeria contamination. More recent recalls include chicken products sold at Costco, frozen waffles and pancake products, and ready-to-eat meals sold at multiple major grocery chains.
