HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- The Howard County Police Department (HCPD) said it has charged an Ellicott City man in connection to the sexual abuse of a teenager.
According to the department, officers arrested James Alan Soltysiak, 56, last week on charges of second-degree rape, sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree assault.
The victim in the case told a trusted adult about the abuse in mid-October, and detectives launched an investigation after the adult contacted police.

Police noted that Soltyskiak was a Boy Scout leader at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ellicott City for the past five years; however, the abuse was unrelated to his role there.
HCPD said they are releasing the information about his arrest due to his proximity to minors despite there being no current indication of more victims.
The department encourages anyone with information to contact 410-313-STOP or [email protected].
