SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A man accused of stealing more than $2,500 in merchandise from a San Francisco Walgreens was arrested after police used newly obtained mobile security units to locate him, the San Francisco Police Department announced Monday.
Shortly after noon on Wednesday, police responded to the Walgreens at 456 Mission Street on the report of retail theft by two suspects who “stuffed numerous items into their backpacks and fled,” SFFD said. The store’s surveillance video of the suspects was shared with investigators.
A person who matched the description of one of the suspects was spotted by authorities through the use of new mobile security units and public safety cameras at 24th and Missions streets, according to SFPD. The suspect was seen attempting to sell the merchandise stolen from Walgreens. Police officers on the ground initiated a foot pursuit while a drone was deployed in the air.

City leaders announced the use of the mobile security units in September. Built by LiveView Technologies, the units have a 22-foot mast with three panoramic cameras on top. Officials said the units allow police to have a 24-hour presence in areas plagued by crime.
