Park City police blotter: People seen ‘living in a tent’ in City Park area

The Park City Police Department received at least two recent reports involving people suspected to be homeless, including a case at City Park.The police at 1:39 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, were told of two people, described as homeless, “living in a tent” in the area of the basketball court at City Park. The person who contacted the department indicated the people “are very nice, a little drunk but nice.”On Sunday, Nov. 3, at 7:03 p.m., a man, described as homeless, was reported to be “hiding” close to a stairway at a hotel on Park Avenue. The police were also told the man was “sleeping in the hallway.” The agency logged the case as suspected vagrancy.The police occasionally receive reports of suspected homelessness in locations across much of the community.Other incidents reported to the Police Department recently included:On Sunday, Nov. 3, at 3:58 p.m., the Park City Library reported someone left a purse and requested an officer retrieve the bag.On Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7:52 p.m., a vehicle was seen on the side of Meadows Drive with the driver reclining. The police said the person is a rideshare driver who was “waiting for the next round of passengers.”The Police Department at 5:10 p.m. indicated an officer found three vehicles that were left in locations on Swede Alley where parking is prohibited. The vehicles also obstructed traffic, the police said. The officer issued the vehicles citations.Someone on Empire Avenue contacted the police at 12:46 p.m. indicating the garage door at a neighboring residence was ajar while the people who live there were outside of Park City. The garage had been ajar for three days, the police were told. The Police Department described the circumstances as suspicious.On Friday, Nov. 1, at 11:45 p.m., the police received information about a vehicle that was in a location on Park Avenue where it was “partially blocking the road.” A person inside the vehicle appeared to be sleeping, the police were told. The police described the circumstances as suspicious.The Police Department at 5:37 p.m. received a report of approximately three people who were soliciting for an unspecified reason on Monitor Drive. The person who contacted the police indicated she wanted them to leave and said a similar issue occurred previously. The police logged the case as a citizen assist rather than a suspected criminal matter.The police at 5:30 p.m. were called to a lodging property on Lowell Avenue, where a guest “was making employees uncomfortable,” according to public police logs. The person had “been escorted off the property twice,” the police were told. The police indicated the circumstances were suspicious.Someone on Norfolk Avenue at 5:08 p.m. reported graffiti on a residence. The person was out of town at the time, and a neighbor provided pictures of the tagging. The person also told the police there is surveillance footage of the incident.A vehicle reportedly overheated in the area of Deer Valley Drive and Main Street at 9:10 a.m.The Police Department at 7:45 a.m. received information about “water flowing out” of a residence on Norfolk Avenue. Nobody was at the residence, and the person who contacted the police indicated the property could be in the rental pool, the police were told.The police at 5:35 a.m. received a report about a man, possibly intoxicated, trying to enter a person’s truck on Main Street and then enter a store. The department indicated the circumstances were suspicious.On Thursday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 p.m., a man, estimated to be between 50 and 60, was seen with a cut on his head on Main Street. The police logged the case as suspected intoxication.The Police Department at 7:16 p.m. received information about malfunctioning stoplights at the intersection of Kearns Boulevard and Bonanza Drive. The police were told the stoplights keep “circulating” red in four directions followed by a green light “for a second.” The police said the issue created a traffic hazard.Someone at 5:23 p.m. reported a charging station for a vehicle powered by electricity would “not disconnect from her car.” The case was logged on Sullivan Road, a small street bordering City Park.The police at 9:10 a.m. received a report of a vehicle that was headed in the wrong direction on Gold Dust Lane “almost” running people over. The police were told the vehicle was a white Range Rover.On Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 10:03 a.m., a bicycle was found on a trail in the area of Park City High School. The police said the bicycle had not been reported as stolen, and the department retrieved the bike for safekeeping.The police at 9:21 a.m. received a complaint about trucks with engines idling on Park Avenue. The agency logged the case as a suspected violation of City Hall’s rules against idling.On Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 4:33 p.m., someone was reported to be “selling free medical and free cell phones” in the area of Monitor Drive. The person was “going to every building number,” the police were told. The police described the circumstances as suspicious.On Monday, Oct. 28, at 8:25 p.m., the police received a report of a noise that, according to the person who contacted the agency, sounded like a gunshot in the area of Thaynes Canyon Drive. There was “one bang” and someone “saw a flash,” the police were told.
