LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Election Day! We are tracking a warm and breezy day across central & eastern Kentucky. While the polls are open, we are going to stay dry. A different story late tonight into tomorrow as rain will be arriving into central Kentucky. Rain and a few storms will be likely throughout the morning hours in central Kentucky, before becoming a bit more isolated later in the day. You can expect some lingering showers and few storms in the forecast on Thursday as well. This kicks off a more active weather pattern that could lead to tropical moisture arriving for the weekend. Warm Election Day We are going to make a run at 80 once again today. On Monday we hit 80 in Lexington for only the 12th during the month of November since record keeping began in 1872. We will likely do the same today. Our daily record high temperature in Lexington 79 and we should easily reach that number once again. It’s also going to be breezy today with wind gusts upwards of 20-30 mph. Occasional wind gusts over 30 mph will be possible during the midday as well. The daytime hours will remain dry outside of a very isolated sprinkle or two. Wednesday/Thursday Rain Rain will be moving in late tonight into the morning hours on Wednesday. The bulk of this rain will be over central and northern Kentucky. The heaviest of the rain will be in the morning hours through the early afternoon. The rain will become more isolated and widely scattered by the afternoon. A frontal boundary will be stalling over the area late Wednesday into Thursday. This will keep lingering rain chances around through the day on Thursday. Thursday you can expect a high variance in temperature from northern Kentucky through southern Kentucky as well. Cooler temperatures in the north, warmer to the south. Tropical Moisture Possible This Weekend We should dry things out late Thursday into Friday. This will be ahead of another weekend system and there are a lot more question marks around this system. A tropical system (Rafael) will be moving into the Gulf of Mexico late this week. The question is where exactly this system will track. Most model data indicates this system will be moving north towards the northern Gulf of Mexico. If this were to happen, tropical moisture will interact with a system moving through the central US towards the Tennessee/Ohio valleys. This would give us a widespread rain chance for the weekend, with some heavy rain possible. The European Model has a different track with this system, keeping a lot of the moisture into the Gulf of Mexico. This is the outlier, but is worth noting considering how much different it is. We will be watching the weekend closely! Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.  ABC 36 HOUR FORECAST TUESDAY (ELECTION DAY): Mostly sunny-to-partly cloudy and very warm. Highs near 80.
