GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Dr. Kristin Lyerly, a practicing OB-GYN from Ledgeview, is running for election to represent Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District.
If elected, Lyerly would make history as the district’s first female representative.
Lyerly, the first Democrat to enter the race following Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher's retirement, launched her campaign on April 4 with a focus on protecting women’s reproductive rights and ensuring access to affordable health care.
Her platform, however, covers a range of issues beyond health care. In a debate on September 27 against Republican Tony Wied, Lyerly stated that she had broadened her platform to focus on economic growth and rural support, countering the perception that she is a "one-issue candidate."
Lyerly’s campaign highlights her commitment to economic strengthening, broadband expansion, and agricultural subsidies to bolster rural communities.
Speaking about her background, Lyerly said, “I’m a first-generation college student. I am someone who has worked hard for everything I have gotten in life, and I’m still connected with the people who brought me up.”
Lyerly and her supporters will gather on Election Night at the Appleton Beer Factory in Appleton.
