VIROQUA, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities in western Wisconsin say two people were arrested after a Saturday night altercation inside a county jail that left another person injured. According to a release from the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, correctional officers immediately responded at 8:30 p.m. on October 26 after they were alerted of a physical assault in one of the dormitory-style cells. Shots fired at community center during birthday party in Wisconsin Jail staff were able to separate the parties involved in the incident so that they could safely give aid to the victim, a sentenced inmate of the Vernon County Jail. Officials say the victim had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance where he was treated, released, and returned back to the jail just after midnight. Courtesy of the Vernon County Sheriff's Office Courtesy of the Vernon County Sheriff's Office Two other sentenced inmates, 21-year-old Zachary James Blackwood and 28-year-old Demandre Andrew Tyshann Frazier, were formally arrested late Thursday morning on charges of Battery by Prisoner. No other information is available and the two arrested inmates are expected to appear in Vernon County Circuit Court soon. The safety and security of staff, inmates, and those who visit our facility is of paramount importance to me. I commend all of my staff not only for their efficient response to this incident, but for what they do each and every day to conduct themselves professionally in a difficult and at times, dangerous profession.
