UTEP men beat Sul Ross State, 10255, in season opener

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — UTEP men's basketball played its way to a 102-55 win over Sul Ross State (DII) in its season opener at the Don Haskins Center on Monday night.

With the win, UTEP starts its 2024-25 season 1-0.
Sul Ross State still holds a 0-0 overall record this season as Monday's game counted as an exhibition for its program.
Ahamad Bynum scored 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor to lead the Miners in scoring against SRSU. Six of Bynum's seven made shots were three-pointers. As a team, UTEP shot 14-of-27 from three-point range. The 14 three-pointers by UTEP tied for fifth most three-pointers in a single game in program history.
Trey Horton III made five three-pointers and racked up a total of 17 points. Otis Fraizer III also recorded 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Tarleton State transfer Devon Barnes scored 11 points in his first regular season game with UTEP.
The Miners collected 23 assists on 35 field goals made. The Miners also controlled the paint (42-26), won fast break points (24-10) and had a huge advantage for bench scoring (53-17). UTEP shot an impressive 56.5 percent (35-62), including 51.9 percent (14-27) from 3-point range. It held SRSU to 39.1 percent (18-46), including just 4-16 (25.0 percent) on triples.
UTEP forced SRSU into 26 turnovers.
The Lobos were paced by former Miner Cam Clardy, who tallied 19 points. Manny Flores (Chapin High School graduate) and Christian Nevarez (Americas High School graduate) made their return to El Paso as members of the Sul Ross State men's basketball team. Both combined for 30 minutes of playing time in the contest.
