Temperatures remain much warmer tonight as the blanket of clouds sticks around, with lows in the 40s and 50s. Another warming trend will take shape over the next few days, with steady southerly winds and stretches of sunshine each day. Warm and breezy conditions are expected on Election Day, with highs pushing into the mid-70s. By Wednesday, high temperatures across the area will flirt with 80 degrees, once again testing records like last week. Around this same time, the decaying cold front from this massive storm system will approach. It will have a hard time overcoming the ridge off the Atlantic Coast, but it could push a few spotty showers over the mountains late Wednesday into Thursday morning. This will be our one chance at rainfall this week, but it's not guaranteed. If we don't see any measurable rain through Thursday, this will be the longest stretch of consecutive days on record for DC and nearly the entire area. Temperatures start to drop behind the decaying cold front Thursday into Friday, with highs falling back into the 60s and overnight lows dropping into the 40s. This seasonable air will stick around into the upcoming weekend as a new wave of low pressure spreads clouds across the region Saturday into Sunday. This weekend's storm system looks like our best chance for rain in weeks, so we'll watch how it develops closely. As of today's forecast, scattered showers look to spread across the area as early as Saturday night or as late as Sunday afternoon and continue through the end of the weekend. 7-Day Forecast: Tonight: Mostly cloudy with patchy fog possible.
