Class B/C Championship: (1) Mendon 2, (2) Sutherland 1 The Vikings repeated as Class B/C sectional champions after a comeback victory against their rivals from Sutherland. After a scoreless first half, all of the scoring happened in the third quarter. Midway through the quarter, Melody Queri blasted a shot on net which was stopped, but Ellie Wiggins was there to poke in the rebound to give Sutherland a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, the Vikings answered as Ava Rice pushed in a rebound in front of the net to tie the game at one. In the final minute of the third, a good display of passing by the Vikings led to a goal by Jaime Kenney. That proved to be the game-winner. This was the fourth straight year that Mendon and Sutherland met in the sectional title game. Mendon won in 2021, 2023, and 2024 with the Knights taking the 2022 title. Mendon will play in the state quarterfinals on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Webster Schroeder High School. They will play the sectional champion from either Section VI (Buffalo) or Section III (Syracuse). Class A Championship: (1) Fairport 2, (2) Thomas 0 The Red Raiders dominated the Class A title game to win their first sectional title since 2018. In the second quarter, Sadie Palma got Fairport on the board after she poked in a rebound after a blast from Carmindy Eckler. In the third, Eckler fired a rocket on net which was tipped in by Hannah Buys for the insurance goal. Julia Nieboer earned the shutout in net, but scoring chances were few and far between as Fairport did a great job of controlling possession and stifling any opportunity by the Titans. Fairport will play in the state quarterfinals on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at Webster Schroeder High School. They will play the sectional champion from either Section VI (Buffalo) or Section III (Syracuse).
