MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A homicide investigation is underway after an inmate at the Merced County Main Jail was found dead in his cell over the weekend, deputies say. According to the Merced County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Edward Ramos was found unresponsive in his cell on Sunday evening. Despite life-saving efforts by on-site medical personnel, deputies, and first responders, Ramos was pronounced deceased. The Merced County Sheriff's Office says investigators anticipate filing charges against multiple individuals believed to be involved in the incident. Although the cause of death has not been released, officers say the incident is being investigated as a homicide.
