LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE) – A new powerline transmission will soon offer Los Alamos National Laboratory extra support for supercomputing. The electrical power capacity upgrade project will place a 14-mile-long transmission line through the Caja del Rio, west of Santa Fe to the south side of the lab.

The laboratory said the current power supply is projected to run short in 2027. "The project needs this power in order to run its supercomputers that support the national security mission and nuclear weapons," said Stephanie Stringer, Deputy Manager for Business, Security & Mission at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
LANL said that without the added power supply, these missions could be relocated outside of Los Alamos taking jobs out of New Mexico.
