The Spurs have won two in a row, can they make it three in a row? Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
Tonight, the Silver and Black play their first game in the Clippers’ new arena, Steve Ballmer’s $2 billion Intuit Dome. It’s a beautiful stadium with amazing technology and amenities, but it hasn’t been particularly friendly to the home team as they’re 0-4 at home so far this year, while winning both or their road games.
The Clippers played the Thunder on Sunday night, who kept James Harden in check with 12 points and won 105-92. The Spurs are coming off an upset win over the Timberwolves who had a poor outing after arriving late in San Antonio after a late game on the previous night. The Spurs are still without the services of Devin Vassell and Tre Jones, but if they can get another solid performance from Keldon Johnson, they can pull off another upset and have their first three-game winning streak of the season, and also be above .500 for the first time in 2024.
Shams Charania reported that Pop is suffering an undisclosed health issue and will not travel with the team on this road trip. Mitch Johnson will be interim coach during Pop’s absence, and he’s pretty well prepared for the gig, having done a good job while Coach Pop missed Sunday’s game. Hopefully, Pop will have a full recovery soon and it’s not something that will keep him out of action for an extended period.
Game Prediction:
Manu Ginobili will come out of retirement to block Harden’s buzzer beater attempt at the end of tonight’s game.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
