Nov 04, 2024
The Park City Police Department in late October and early November continued to receive reports of wildlife sightings, including mountain lions, an injured deer and a deer carcass. The police regularly log calls related to wildlife and the most recent cases were similar to those that are typically reported. The case involving mountain lions was reported on Friday, Nov. 1, at 10:04 a.m. in Deer Valley. The police were told the two mountain lions, described as babies, were seen on the side of Royal Street. The animals were close to a lodge, the police were told.Mountain lion sightings are notable since the predators can pose a danger to people and pets. The Nov. 1 case is also of note since it was reported in the area of a lodge as well as off Royal Street, which is a heavily developed road linking lower Deer Valley and upper Deer Valley. The sighting followed just days after a mountain lion was seen on a small street between Snow Park and Silver Lake Village. Another case was reported in early October on a trail in Old Town, in the area of Ontario Avenue.Other wildlife cases reported to the Police Department recently included:On Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., the police were told of a moose on Daly Avenue that was “hanging around” a house. The person who contacted the police was “afraid to go outside,” according to public police logs.
On Nov. 2 at 4:53 p.m., a moose was seen in the area of Main Street and 9th Street after it was initially spotted on the Aerie hillside. The police were told the animal appeared to be “confused.”
On Nov. 2 at 9:38 a.m., a young deer was reported to be on a back porch at a residence on Meadow Creek Drive. The police were told one of the animal’s legs was broken and it “can’t move well.”
On Monday, Oct. 28, at 1:11 p.m., a deer carcass was seen outside Treasure Mountain Junior High School, toward playing fields. Public police logs did not provide details about the animal’s injuries. The Police Department on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 5:49 p.m., meanwhile, was told of a livestock problem on Red Cloud Trail. Public police logs did not provide details. The police occasionally receive reports of livestock. The wildlife sightings will likely continue with snow beginning to accumulate at the upper elevations. Animals often descend to lower elevations to graze when snow begins to fall at the upper elevations. They are more likely to be seen at the lower elevations. There is also more traffic at the lower elevations, creating the risk of collisions between drivers and animals. The post Park City police receive report of baby mountain lions in Deer Valley appeared first on Park Record.
