KINGSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Both the URI men’s and women’s basketball teams opened their seasons with wins at the Ryan Center on Monday.
The Rhody women led off the evening with a 68-45 victory over Stonehill.
“Last year’s team, in the beginning we couldn’t always execute,” URI Women’s Head Coach Tammi Reiss said. “This team is very connected. The more the season goes on, the more successful we’ll be.”
The men’s team followed suit, with a dominant 96-58 win over Fairfield.
“This team has been specifically assembled in a certain way,” URI Men’s Head Coach Archie Miller said. “It’s to be able to provide instant depth and have a quality practice environment everyday.”
The Rhody men next take on Holy Cross at the Ryan Center on Friday, while the women’s team will be away at UAlbany.
